Marinara Sauce Recipe
Deliciously flavorful home made marinara sauce recipe using fresh tomatoes.
30 fresh roma tomatoes
2 Tablespoons olive oil
1 Tablespoon basil, chopped fine
1 Tablespoon oregano, chopped fine
1/4 cup granulated sugar
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 medium onion, diced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.
Cut the tomatoes into half and place cut side down on a greased baking sheet.
Roast for about 10 minutes.
Remove and allow to cool slightly then peel off skins.
Crush the tomatoes using a potato masher or your hands.
Heat oil to medium heat in a large sauce pan.
Add the onions and garlic, saute 4-5 minutes until translucent.
Add the tomato puree, basil, oregano, sugar, salt, and pepper.
Bring the sauce to a boil.
On low heat simmer sauce for about 2 hours.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
